Planet A Invests in Phlair with Support from VOY
VOY lawyers Johannes Steinacher, Kristian Lutz, and Niko Paetzold have supported Planet A on their investment in Phlair.
The Munich-based climate tech startup has successfully raised a EUR 14.5M seed financing round. The oversubscribed financing round was led by Extantia Capital, with participation from Planet A and Verve Ventures as well as existing investors, including Atlantic Labs, Counteract, and UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators. The round further consists of a EUR 2.5M grant from the EIC accelerator.
According to the IPCC, hundreds of billions of tons of CO₂ must be removed by the end of this century to meet global climate targets. However, deployment at scale of DAC CO2 capture from ambient air has proven challenging due high costs, energy consumption and manufacturability.
Phlair is tackling the cost barrier: Its first-of-a-kind hydrolyzer-based solution uses off-the-shelf components and is compatible with the intermittent nature of renewables. This makes it cheaper and easier to scale. Phlair intends to use the funding to bring its first-of-a-kind Direct Air Capture (DAC) plants online in 2025.

About Phlair
Founded in 2022 by Malte Feucht, Paul Teufel, and Steffen Garbe, Phlair has developed novel DAC technology whose system employs a pH-swing mechanism powered solely by electricity for efficient CO₂ capture and release. The captured CO2 is used by partners for permanent storage or to manufacture CO2-negative chemicals. Building on existing and proven low-capex components from Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells and water electrolysis, Phlair’s solution allows for rapid scalability with high durability. The system also includes a built-in energy storage mechanism, eliminating the need for additional expensive battery storage.
